Can’t Sleep At Night ? Try This..
If you’ve ever climbed into bed exhausted only to find your mind racing through every worry, conversation, and unfinished task from the day, you’re not alone. An overactive mind can make falling asleep surprisingly difficult.
While practices like meditation can be helpful for many people, they don’t work for everyone, especially when the nervous system is already in a heightened state of stress.
One gentle technique used in somatic and body-based approaches involves slow, repetitive movement to help shift the nervous system toward relaxation. Rhythmic, predictable motions are thought to provide calming sensory input, and research suggests that repetitive movement can promote relaxation by engaging the body’s sensory and balance systems.
A simple exercise to try is this: lie comfortably on your back with your legs extended, then slowly move both feet from side to side together, like windshield wipers. Continue the movement in a smooth, unhurried rhythm for 3–5 minutes while breathing naturally.
Although this technique isn’t guaranteed to make you fall asleep, many people find that the repetitive movement helps reduce physical tension, quiet mental chatter, and make it easier to transition into sleep. If you experience persistent insomnia or ongoing sleep difficulties, it’s important to speak with a qualified healthcare professional to identify any underlying causes.
